Odisha teenager Mohammad Ashraf won the top prize of 83 pounds in the junior category of the London Chess Classic (Fide Rated Open) Tournament, which concluded in London today. Cuttack boy Ashraf finished 57th in the final standings of the nine-round tournament. He scored 5.5 points, winning five games, losing three and drawing one.
Altogether 231 players, including 15 from India participated in the event. There were 10 Grandmasters and 24 International Masters in the fray. Indian players asserted their supremacy with GM Abhijeet Gupta (8.5) and IM Sajah Grover (7.5) emerging champion and runner-up respectively.
