Orissa state billiards and snooker champion Subrat Das accomplished a major success of his career by reaching pre-quarterfinals before losing to World champion Pankaj Advani in the 78th Senior National Snooker Championship at Geetha Bhawan, Chennai today.
This was perhaps the first time that a cueist from Orissa reached the round of 16 in the National championship. Earlier in the group league, Subrat, the brand ambassador of Adarsh Group, posted a stunning 3-1 win over three-times junior National champion Shahbaz Adil Khan.
However, state runner-up Jeet Kishore Das crashed out in the preliminary league stage, losing his first two league matches by 1-3 identical margin.

Subrat Das: Group League: Beat Divya Sharma (Haryana) 3-1 (51-42, 19-55, 51-29, 63-56), beat Shahbaz Adil Khan (PSPB) 3-1 (46-19, 62-33, 42-65, 44-26), lost to Faisal Khan (Rly) 1-3 (46-12, 16-75, 2-68, 9-87). Round of 32: Beat Anuj Uppal (Maharashtra) 4-3 (57-64, 67-5, 74-46, 52-61, 64-48, 41-58, 72-33). Pre-quarters: Lost to Pankaj Advani 0-4 (16-110, 35-75, 41-54, 34-65).
Jeet Kishore Das: Group League: Lost to Aneesh Saini (Haryana) 1-3 (83-43, 51-55, 50-84, 25-50); lost to Yasin Merchant (Maharashtra) 1-3 (25-49, 65-55, 0-80, 0-75); lost to K Venkatesam (Rly) 3-2 (31-73, 65-13, 9-55, 73-46, 42-63).
