Former Australia all-rounder Michael Bevan got down to business as the chief coach and consultant of Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) by interacting with state selectors, coaches, physios, trainers and other support staff at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today. He broadly described his plans and programmes for the overall development of cricket in the state.
As many as 85 electors, coaches, physios, trainers and other support staff attended the interactive session. Bevan will next meet all the support staff individually in order to form his team of coaches and support staff to help execute his plans. OCA secretary Asirbad Behera and other office-bearers were present at the hour-long session.
Speaking to mediapersons on the occasion, Bevan hinted that helping Orissa reach the semifinals of the Ranji Trophy Championship would be his first goal. He said he would function in a professional manner and would be accountable for all his activities.
Bevan praised the infrastructure facility set up OCA and made it clear that importance would be given to improve the efficiency and fighting spirit of the players. He described OCA\`s decision not to include any outsider in the State Ranji team as a welcome step.
