Rourkela-based Birsa Munda Vidyapitha beat Lyallpur Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar 2-1 in the final to emerge champions in the Nehru Junior Hockey Tournament at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi today. Birsa Munda Vidyapith, comprising players from Panposh Sports Hostel, thus completed a glorious double, winning the sub-junior version two weeks ago.
Sunil Ekka, Arbin Barla scored the two goals for the winners, who took home the top prize of Rs 96,000. Birsa Munda goalkeeper Pradeep Kujur was adjudged the man of the match.
Earlier in the semifinals, the Rourkela school beat Bright Scholar Senior Secondary School, Sonepat (Haryana) 3-1. Saroj Ekka struck a brace, while the third goal was scored by Sunil Ekka.
