Samal Auto India Private Limited (SAIPL) of Banharpal, Angul yesterday provided sponsorship to five boys and equal number of girls to represent Orissa in the 24th National Under-7 Chess Championship to be held at Jamshedpur from December 21 to 30.
SAIPL Managing Director Gangadhar Samal handed over Rs 12,000 to each of the 10 players at a function here. The recipients included Pranab Kumar Patra, Amitanshu Priyadarshan, Baibhav Singh, Vedang Sarangi Ankit Ray (all boys), Saina Salonika, Nikita Mallick, Sushree Sunayana Mishra, Sushree Mohapatra and Shreya Smruti Mohanty (all girls).
In normal practice, All India Chess Federation (AICF) allows each state to send a maximum of two entries for each category of the National championship. But Orissa has been the privilege to send three more in each category because the state bagged both the boys and girls titles in the last National under-7 championship. Adyasa Mahapatra and Rudraksh Parida won the girls and boys title respectively.
