Chintan Naik (Bhubaneswar) and Niharika Patel (Cuttack) emerged the best male and female swimmer respectively in the 51st State Swimming Championship, which concluded here at Biju Patnaik Swaimming Complex, Kalinga Stadium today.
Son of government swimming coach Surendra Kumar Naik, Chintan bagged four gold and one silver medals to receive the Binodini Majhi Memorial Trophy, securing 23 points. He also established the lone new meet record in men’s 100 metre freestyle event, clocking 1:00.20 seconds.
Niharika garnered 25 points to lift the Dr Jhasaketan Sahu Memorial Trophy. Subrat Sahoo of Orissa Police took the prize as the fastest swimmer of the two-day meet, winning the men’s 50 metre freestyle event in 26.43 seconds.
Dr Geoge Patnaik Memorial Trophy for best performer in sub-junior category was shared by Sonu Patel (Sambalpur) and Soumyadeep Saha (Bhubaneswar). Sambalpur won the team championship with 236 points, while host Bhubaneswar finished runners-up with 173 points. Orissa Olympic Association secretary Asirbad Behera and Orissa Swaimming Association president Durga Shankar Patnaik handed over the trophies at the closing function.

Group-4 (9-10 years): Boys: Soumyadeep Saha (Bbs, 20pts); Girls: Ankita Subhadarshini (Bbs, 10pts).
Group-3 (11-12 years): Boys: Sonu Patel (Sbp, 20pts); Girls: Debajani Bose (Ctc, 20pts).
Group-2 (13-14 years): Boys: Avimanyu Pradhan (Sbp, 20pts); Girls: Niharika Patel (Sbp, 25pts).
Group-1 (15-17 years): Boys: Laxmi Suna (Sbp, 18pts); Girls: Pujarani Sundaray (Bbs, 15pts).
Men: Chintan Naik (Bbs, 23pts); Women: Niharika Patel (Ctc, 25pts).
