Cuttack women lift State basketball trophy

Cuttack District Athletic Association edged out Bhubaneswar Athletic Association in the final to win the title in the 51st State Senior Women Basketball Championshp, which concluded at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack today. The two-day championship, conducted by Orissa Basketball Association and sponsored by Nalco, started and ended almost un-noticed. The insignificance of the championship was evident from the fact that only five teams participated in the event. Interestingly three of them were from Cuttack alone. No wonder that basketball is lesser-known sports in Orissa. Other three teams in the fray included Rovers Athletic Club (Cuttack), Cuttack Basketball Association and Kendrapara. Was it a state championship ? State sports fraternity should wonder.
