Bhubaneswar youngsters Komal Vishakha and Abhilipsa Rath bagged their maiden National junior circuit title when they emerged champions in the under-16 girls doubles event of the KDTA-AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament here at Bhubaneswar Club today.
Komal’s consistency and Abhilipsa’s power helped them beat Tamanna Pattnaik and Koyal Mishra 4-1, 5-4 (7-3) in the all-Orissa final and garner five ranking points each. ‘‘The girls worked hard for every point and their consistency helped them win the title,’’ observed Komal’s coach Ajay Nishank and Lalit Dash.
Host Orissa asserted its supremacy by booking berths in almost all the finals of the seven-event tournament. Spain-trained Ansu Kumar Bhuyan emereged favourite for the title in under-16 boys singles, while Gurukul Tennis Academy boy Shakti Ray stayed on course for a title double. Among the girls, Abhilipsa Rath inched closer to triple crown by reaching the two singles final as well.

U-16 boys singles (SFs): Anshu Kumar Bhuyan (Ori) bt Adwithiya Pattnaik (Ori) 6-2,6-3: Shakti Ray (Ori) bt MMK Ramineni (AP) 7-5,7-6 (7-1).
U-12 girls singles (SFs): Abhilipsa Rath (Ori) bt Tamanna Pattnaik (Ori) 7-5,6-0: Tanmayee Pattnaik (Ori) bt Smriti Sanchita (Ori) 6-2,6-2.
U-16 girls singles (SFs): Tanmayee Pattnaik (Ori) bt Komal Vishakha (Ori) 6-1,6-0: Abhilipsa Rath (Ori) bt Bhavya Ramineni (AP) 6-3,7-5.
U-12 boys doubles (SFs): Avilash Mishra-Nishant Kumar bt Anushuman Srivastava-Rishi Khirwar 6-1,6-2: Sanil Jagtiani-Akshat Agarwal bt Nilay Mishra-Adveya Sharma 6-2,6-1.
U-16 boys doubles (SFs): Adiwytya Pattnaik-Shakti Raty bt Ayush Panda-Sabyasachi Mohanty 6-0,6-0: MMK Ramineni-Purushottam Dash bt Adarsh Sahoo-Anish Mishra 6-2,6-1.
U-16 girls doubles (SFs): Tamanna Pattnaik-Koyal Mishra bt Alisha Samal-Smriti Sanchita 4-0,5-4(7-5): Komal Vishakha-Abhilipsa Rath bt Shreya Sahoo-Tanmayee Pattnaik 4-0,5-4(7-2). Final: K Vishakha-A Rath bt S Sahoo-T Pattnaik 4-1,5-4(7-3).
