Padmini suffers second successive defeat

Orissa WIM Padmini Rout suffered her second successive defeat as she lost to top seed and Indian Soumya Swaminathan in the eighth round of the World Junior (U-20) Girls Chess Championship at Puerto Madryn in Argentina today. The crucial win helped Woman Grand Master (WGM) Soumya join three others in the lead with six points, while Padmini slipped joint third place with five points. Asian junior champion Padmini’s fellow Orissa WIM Kiran Manisha Mohanty (4.5 points) also suffered defeat when she went down to Peru WIM Cori Tello Deysi. In the ninth round, sixth seed Padmini will meet Cori Tello Deysi and Kiran will take on Herrera Milena (Colombia).
