Delhi to meet Kolkata in Callaghan Cup final

Delhi Hurricanes and Kolkata Police set up the October 29 final of the All-India Callaghan Cup Division-II Rugby Tournament, defeating Tamil Nadu Police 10-5 and Jungle Crows 15-0 respectively in the semifinals at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar today. The first semifinal was decided in extra time after play in the regulation time ended in 5-5 draw. After a barren first half, Bikash Khetri executed the first try to give Delhi Hurricanes the lead. But Tamil Nadu Police put up excellent performace to equalise the score three minutes before the final whistle. Vicky scored the decisive try for the Delhi outfit in the extra time. In the second semifinal, Debashis Barua made the first try for Kolkata Police, while Ashok Ghosh did the convertion score. Dawa Bhutia executed the second try after the change of ends. Meanwhile, Chennai Irish and Pune occupied the eighth and ninth positions in the ranking list. After a day’s rest, Tamil Nadu Police would meet Jungle Crows for the third and fourth positions. The losers’ plate final would also be played on Thursday between Young Rugby Club and Kolkata Sergent.
