Padmini jumps to joint second place

Orissa WIM Padmini beat Poland WIM Hanna Leks in the fourth round to register her third successive victory in the World Junior (U-20) Girls Chess Championship at Puerto Madryn in Argentina today. She now has three points and shares the lead with five others. But other Orissa WIM Kiran Manisha Mohanty (2 points) lost to Zoja Severiukhina (Russia) in the fourth round to slip from 15th to 24th position in the championship ranking. In the fifth round, Asian junior champion Padmini would meet WIM Olga Kalinina (Ukraine) and Kiran would take on Carla Heredia Serrano (Ecuador).
