Orissa`s 16-run win over Jharkhand went in vain as the state team missed a berth in the knock-out round, finishing third in the East Zone Twenty20 Cricket Tournament for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Railway Stadium in Dhanbad today.
Despite the defeat, Jharkhand along with Assam qualified for the knock-out round as the top two among five teams of East Zone. Bengal finished fourth and Tripura the last. Three teams tied for the top position with three wins and 12 points each. But on the basis of net run rate, Jharkhand (+1.604) topped the table, followed by Assam (+0.826) and Orissa (+0.712).
Four players shone in the Orissa win with Niranjan Behera (57 off 50, 4x6, 6x2) and Pravanjan Mullick (45 off 30, 4x1, 6x4) displaying aggressive batting and captain Rakesh Mohanty (3/27) and Paresh Patel (3/27) proving successful in bowling.
