Cuttack teenager Tousif Haque and Bhubaneswar girls Samartha Prusty re-asserted their supremacy in the State Table Tennis Championship, which concluded at Ispat Indoor Stadium in Rourkela today. Tousif bagged a double by winning titles in men’s and youth boys’ singles, while Samartha retained her crown in junior girls’ singles.
The three-day championship was organized by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) under the aegis of Orissa State Table Tennis Association (OSTTA). RSP Executive Director A K Sinha gave away the prizes at the closing function.
RESULTS (All finals):
Cadet boys: Suvendu Dutta (Nalco) beat Anustup Das (Khurda) 3-0.
Sub-junior boys: Bikash Singh (RSP) beat Mohammad Yunus (Cuttack) 4-0.
Junior boys: Asif Haque (Cuttack) beat Saswat Samal (Cuttack) 4-2.
Youth boys: Tousif Haque (Cuttack) beat Asif Haque (Cuttack) 4-2.
Men’s doubles: Fayaz Mohammad-Gourav Brahmachari (East Coast Railway) beat Tousif Haque-Abdul Javed (Cuttack) 3-2.
Men’s singles: Tousif Haque (Cuttack) beat Asif Haque (Cuttack) 4-3.
Cadet girls: Taniya Gope emerged champion by topping the round-robin league.
Sub-junior girls: Anjali Agarwal (Bhubaneswar) beat Anuska Nayak (Khurda) 4-3.
Junior girls: Samartha Prusty (Bhubaneswar) beat Ankita Kha (Khurda) 3-0.
