Padmini 35th, Kiran 81st at N K Open

The N K Open International Chess Tournament, which concluded at Dieren in Holland today, brought mixed fortune for Orissa with its two Woman International Masters (WIM) Padmini Rout and Kiran Manisha Mohanty finishing 35th and 81st respectively among 93 competitors. Asian junior champion Padmini beat FM Dimitri Van Leent in the ninth and final round to finish close her account with five points, winning three games, drawing four and losing the rest two. Padmini, who started 45th, gained 10 places in the ranking list of the tournament. Former Women National `B` champion Kiran, who started 57th, suffered a loss of 24 places. She lost to FM Djurre Den Heeten in the final round and closed her account with three points. Kiran`s card read five defeats, two wins and three drawn games. GM Erwin L`Ami won the title with seven points after drawing his last game against GM Jan Timman.
