Orissa’s second highest rated player Debashis Das (Elo 2374) finished 23rd with six points in the 14th International Open Chess Tournament, which concluded at Balaguer in Spain yesterday.
He beat Lluis Quintas Galeano of Spain in the tenth and final round. Overall, Debashis won four games, drew four and lost the remaining two. With a starting rank of 25, the Orissa boy put up impressive performance in the strong tournament, defeating one Grandmaster, two International Masters and splitting point with another Grandmaster in the process. His overall performance was rated as 2414.
