The Sports and Youth Services Department in the Government of Orissa today announced to conduct a state-wide talent scouting programme from July 3 to 13 to select trainees for 14 governemnt-run sports hostels and three centre of excellence for the year 2009-2010.
The programme will take place at 29 places and in 11 disciplines — archery, athletics, basketball, football, gymnastics, hockey, kabaddi, swimming, volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling.
Getting into the Govt-run sports hostels offers cost-free facilities to achieve national and international success and more importantly ensure a living out of sports. Selected talents are provided with accommodation, food, education and regular training in their chosen game.
Age and academic education are two criterias, aspiring trainees must fulfill. For sports hostels, one should be within 10 to 14 years (by April 1, 2009) for gymnastics, swimming and withing 12 to 14 years (by April 1, 2009) for other nine disciplines.
