Orissa’s highest capped hockey international Dilip Tirkey was today chosen to receive the Ricoh Hockey Star of the Year Award for 2009.
Former India captain Dilip will be the second recipient of the award, which has been instituted by Khurda District Hockey Association (KDHA) and office automation company Rico India.
Dilip’s name was finalized by a committee, comprising Olympian Lazrus Barla, sports journalists Sambit Mohapatra, Suresh Swain, Umakant Mishra, Ricoh India’s Subha Kumar Mishra and KDHA secretary Pankaj Patnaik.
Mid-fielder Prabodh Tirkey, also a former India captain, was first to bag the award in 2008. The award carries a purse of Rs 11,000. Dilip will be presented with the award at a function to be held here in the second week of June.
