A spectacular brace by Amardeep Ekka helped Orissa Hockey Association (OHA) edge past Maratha Light Infanty, Belgaon 2-1 in the second semifinal of the All-India Invitation Hockey Tournament at Pune today.
According OHA assistant secretary Pranab Kishor Pattnaik, Orissa trailed 0-1 at the half-time before Ekka achieved his creditable feat.
He first neutralised lead, by converting an Anand Tirkey pass into goal in the 38th minute. His second goal came off a solo effort in the 59th minute.
Orissa will take on local favourites Vikram Pilley Hockey Academy in the final tomorrow. Earlier yesterday, the OHA side started its campaign in style, defeating last three years’ champions Central Railway, Mumbai 1-0 in a quarterfinal encounter. Drag-flicker Amit Rohidas struck the all-important goal off a penalty corner in the 22nd minute.
Organised jointly by Maharashtra Hockey Association and Rakesh Pilley Sports Academy, the tournament carries cash prizes of Rs 22,222 for the winners and Rs 12,222 for the runners-up.
