Utakl University became richer by Rs 2 lakh after emerging champions in the 2nd Kiit Premier League (KPL) day-night cricket tournament for technical universities and colleges, which concluded at KIIT campus in Bhubaneswar this evening.
In the final, Utkal University defeated Kiit Spartans by 65 runs. Runners-up Kiit Spartans took home the second prize of Rs 1 lakh.
Earlier, Utkal University beat Kiit Vikings, while Kiit Spartans got the better of Sikshya O Anusandhan University in the semifinals.
Altogether 12 universities and colleges from different states took part in the week-long tournament, which was organised by KIIT University.
The highlight of the final match was a sparkling knock of 73 by Utkal University’s Rajesh Baliarsingh, who was adjudged the man of the match.
Kiit Spartans captain Amiya Samal emerged as the man of the tournament for his impressive performance with both bat and ball. His teammate Arindam Behera was named the best batsman.
The best bowler and best wicket-keeper prizes went to Utkal University’s Manoj Barik and Israel Khan respectively.
