Four wins each helped Orissa-A and Chhatishgarh ensure places in the semifinals of the first National Gateball Championship, which commenced at Satyanagar in Bhubaneswar today.
Himachal Pradesh and Orissa-B posted two wins each to inch closer to the semifinals. The HP side, comprising the lone girl (Dimple) of the championship, caused an upset by defeating Orissa-B 17-16.
HP were also the only side to score full 25 points in their victory over Chandigarh.
On individual capacity, teenager Spandan Mishra of Orissa-A put up the most impressive performance, scoring a maximum of 16 points.
Seven teams joined the two-day championship, which was earlier inaugurated by Indian Gateball Association president Dr S K Tamotia.
Results: Orissa-A beat Orissa-B 15-14, bt Jammu & Kashmir 15-9, bt Haryana 18-13.
Chhatishgarh bt Haryana 10-6, bt J&K 13-12, bt Chandigarh 13-6, bt HP 15-10, lost to Orissa-B 11-23.
Orissa-B bt Uttarakhand 15-7, lost to HP 16-17.
Himachal Pradesh drew with J&K 17-17, beat Chandigarh 25-19.
Chandigarh bt J&K 22-16.
