Ignace Tirkey weds Masira Surin

Orissa`s former India hockey captain Ignece Tirkey married the Jharkhand woman hockey international Masira Surin at a church in Simdega (Jharkhand) today. Praying for the couple in this Christmas season of love and forgiveness, father M Gulab Lugun solemnised the marriage at a simple function at the Lachragarh Roman Catholic Church. The bride and groom, both part of Indian men`s and women`s hockey teams, were traditionally dressed as the ceremony went on for two hours. Born in Lulkidihi village of Sundargarh district, 27-year-old Ignace was accompanied by his brother Prabodh, also an international hockey player, and Auditor General of Bengal Benjamin Lakra. The new couple`s reception party will be held at Lulkidihi tomorrow. Ignace and Masira, also 27, first met each other at New Delhi five years ago. They decided to life partners last year. Born at Simdega on November 18, 1981, Masira made her international debut in 1999. She represented India in Asia Cup, Afro-Asia Cup and was a member of the Commonwealth Games gold medal winning team. An employee of South Eastern Railway, Masira is posted in Jharkhand. Ignace, who made his international debut in 2001, is now serving in Army at Bangalore. He represented the country in 2004 Athens Olympic Games and was a member of the gold medal winning Asia Cup and Afro-Asia Cup teams. He became a hero for his superb goal in the 2003 Asia Cup final against Pakistan at Kuala Lumpur.
