Cheteshwar Pujara`s unbeaten triple century, an unconquered double hundred by Ravindra Jadeja and the pair`s record 520-run partnership for the unfinished fifth wicket helped Saurashtra declare their first innings at 620 for four on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Group-A Super League match against Orissa at SCA stadium in Rajkot today.
Resuming at the overnight score of 273 for four, hosts Saurashtra sent the hapless opposition on leather hunt, compiling 347 runs in the process, without losing any wicket in the day.
According to information received in Bhubaneswar, Pujara, who had scored two triple centuries against Maharashtra and Mumbai in the West zone under-22 C K Nayudu Trophy tournament last month, continued the superb form by hitting his maiden first class triple century. His unbeaten knock of 302 came off 421 balls and was studded with 33 hits to the rope and three over it.
Giving excellent company to Pujara, Jadeja remained unconquered on 232 (362 balls, 4x20), which is his maiden double hundred in first class cricket.
The formidable partnership between the two carried Saurashtra from a vulnerable — at one stage they were 27 for three — to a commanding position.
After nearly two days` of suffering, Orissa found some consolation at the end of the day as openers Shiv Sundar Das and Bikash Swarup Pati gave the side a sound start by garnering 46 runs in the unbroken first wicket stand.
