TALCHER RIFLE CLUB

Affiliated to: National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Organises two competitions annually. The first on the second Sunday of January since 1994 in memory of Raja Probodh Chandra Dhir Birbar and the second during Durga Puja since 1965 in the memory of RAja SAheb of Balrampur.

CHRONOLOGY:

*     The club was started in 1965 under the civilian scheme of Government of India.
*     The aim was to give law abiding citizens training with support of arms for target shooting, self defence and in case of emergency act as second line of defence for protection of the mother land.
*     The club carried on its activities such as training, practice and competitions from 1965 to 1985 on a piece of land allotted by Late Raja H C Deb of Talcher for use as shooting range.
*     Since the the land was not suitable for shooting range (facing East to West), Late Raja of Talcher and the then vice-president of the club, S C Deb donated half an acre of land in 1985 to construct a proper range in the name of Raja Hrudaya Chandra Deb. With contribution mebers and donations from outside, the range was set up the same year.
*     Later with the help of Government establishments, boundary wall, double storied club house, shooting platform, trench, 10m air rifle shooting range and tubewell were added.
*     In order to conduct National shooting championship, another 4.5 acres of land, adjacent to the club was allotted by the Government.
*     Talcher Rifle Club owns the only private shooting range in Orissa.
*     Orissa Police, Home guard and NCC also use the range as and when required.
*     The club sends teams to participate in the All-India GV Malvankar National Sahooting Competition.
*     The is in possession of seven BRNO .22 rifles, eight air rifles and some shooting equipment.
*     The 15th Raja PC Dhir Birbar Shooting Competition was held on Jan 13, 2008. Soumya Ranjan Sahoo emerged as the best shooter of the meet.
*     The 43rd annual shooting competition was held on October 22 and 23, 2007. Prasant Kumar Sarangi and Suchismita Patra emerged best shooters among men and ladies respectively.
*     The 44th annual shooting competition was conducted at Raja Hrudaya Chandra Deb Shooting Complex from October 10-12, 2008.
