Orissa`s leading woman chess player Kiran Manisha Mohanty finally ended her long wait for sponsorship on Wednesday with city businessman Naba Ranjan Patnaik assuring her financial support for a year.
`I will bear the tour expenses required to help Kiran play tournaments in the country and abroad. The duration the sponsorship will be extended if she performs well,` Patnaik, also a vice-president of Orissa Cricket Association, said here.
Former Women`s National `B` champion Kiran said she would be playing three international and as many national tournaments this year and expressed hope to bag a couple of titles as well.
`My chances of winning the National and Asian junior tournaments are bright,` claimed Kiran, the first Woman International Master (WIM) of Orissa.
`But obtaining the second women`s grandmaster (WGM) norm will be my major goal this year, added the 19-year-old engineering student.
Kiran`s tour schedule:
Sept 15-26: National `B` championship at Goa
Sept 27 to Oct 6: Commonwealth championship at Nagpur
October: National coaching camp at New Delhi
Nov 3-15: Junior (u-19) National championship at Vijaywada
Nov 13-25: Women``s Olympiad in Germany
December 1st week: Asian junior (u-20) championship at Chennai
December: Women`s National `A` championship at New Delhi
