Renowned sand art world champion Sudarsan Pattnaik wished good luck to Indian contingent for the Beijing Olympic Games in his own inimitable way by sculpting a sandy Olympic stadium at the Puri beach, 60 kms from here on Wednesday.
He needed eight hours and 10 tons of sand to create the sculpture with the help of the students of his sand art institute. "I created the Olympic stadium because I like sports and want to encourage the Indian contingent to perform well in the Beijing Games," Patnaik said.
The sculpture drew appreciation from people, among whom many wrote their messages on the sand for the Indian contingent. Pattnaik, who often creates sand sculptures to coincide with major sports events, recently bagged the title in the first USF World Sand Art Championship in Germany. He has the distinction of displaying his artistic skill at the 1999 Cricket World Cup in England, 2006 FIFA World Cup in Berlin and 2006 Asian Games in Doha.
