Indias youngest and Orissa``s second Woman International Master (WIM) Padmini Rout returned home today after winning the gold medal in girls`` under-14 age group of the Asian Youth Chess Championship at Teheran on Monday last.
Padmini gave credit to the tips she received from Ukranin Grandmaster Georgy Timoschenko in Bhubaneswar before the Asian meet. "I had finished fourth in this championship last year. But tips given by Timoschenko made a big difference this time. It also boosted my confidence," admitted Padmini.
The city lass registered four wins and drew the remaining three games to top the table with 5.5 points. She started off on lacklustre note, drawing her first two games. But convincing wins in the last two rounds helped her bounce back in style.
"I had a fever before I left for Teheran. It affected my performance in the firts two rounds. But according to Timoschenko``s advice I kept my cool and played confidently thereafter to overcome the early crisis``" explanied Padmini, who was greeted here at the Biju Patnaik by his father Dr Ashok Rout, friends and well-wishers.
