Rashmi Ranjan Parida slammed a pugnacious knock of 94 to help Orissa draw their four-day Ranji Trophy Super League Group-A match against Kerala on the last day at Bareabati Stadium in Cuttack today. But Kerala collected five points by virtue of taking first-innings lead, while Orissa settled with three.
Needing 283 runs to avoid innings defeat, Orissa were in deep trouble, losing four wickets for 114 in the second innings. The home team eventually finished at 291 for eight, thanks to the 195-ball knock by Parida and his 137-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Pravanjan Mullick, who contributed 41 runs.
Earlier, opting to bat, Kerala rode on a double hundred by KN Ananthapadmanabhan and a century by Sunil Oasis to declare their first innings at 535 for nine. Captain Sanjay Raul was most successful bowler for his team, bagging six wickets for 143 runs.
In reply, Orissa were bowled out for 253. Pradip Kumar Das was the top scorer for the home team, hitting a patient half-century. Ananthapadmanabhan also shone with ball for Kerala, capturing six wickets for 99 runs. Forced to follow on after conceding a lead of 282 runs, Orissa managed to draw the match, putting up tenacious batting performance in the second innings.
