Woman International Master (WIM) Kiran Manisha Mohanty left here today to participate in the Canadian Open Chess Tournament to be held at Montreal from July 19 to 27. This will be former Women``s National ``B`` Champion Kiran``s 13th international tournament and third of the year. She played her last two internationals this year at Philadelphia (USA).
A first year engineering student of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) here, Kiran said she was aiming at gaining some rating points and her second Woman Grand Master (WGM) norm at the Canadian Open. The 17-year-old city lass has secured one gold (Commonwealth under-18 girls), two silver and two bronze medals in her five-year-long international career so far.
Kiran``s collection of National medals includes three golds (under-14 girls`` rapid, under-17 girls`` classic and Women``s National ``B``) and equal number of silvers. Her current Elo rating stands at 2316.
