Mitra hits 114* in drawn Ranji match vs Bengal

Bengal and Orissa gathered 17 and 12 points respectively from their three-day East Zone Ranji Trophy match, which ended in a draw on the last day at the Eden Gardents in Calcutta today. As many as three players made their first-class debut for Orissa in this match. They were: Amiya Ray, Sidhartha Mohanty and Sushil Kumar Prasad.

Put into bat by Bengal captain J Arun Lal, Orissa rode on an unbeaten century by Swapan Mitra to compile a healthy total of 302. Mitra hit 11 fours and two sixes in 225-ball knock of 114. In reply, Bengal declared at 318 for seven with the help of an unbeaten 146 by opener Pranab Roy.

Among successful Orissa bolwers, Harmohan Praharaj and Pawan Agarwal captured three wickets each. In the second innings, a half-century by SK Prasad enabled Orissa declare at 218 for nine, while Bengal reached 58 for four at stumps on the final day.
