Jena leaves for Asian bodybuilding meet

Kartikeswar Jena was given a warm send-off here today for the Asian Bodybuilding Championship to be held at Hong Kong from July 16 to 21. International powerlifters Ranu Mohanty and Pradeep Patra, National karateka Santosh Moharana and coach Hari Prasad Pattanayak wished Jena all success in a function here at the Utkal Karate School. Local bodybuilder Jena will be competing in the master (75kg weight class) category of the Asian meet. It will be the maiden international appearance for the 50-year-old bodybuilder, who has won many medals in National bodybuilding, powerlifting and armwrestling championships. "Though I had two opportunities represent the country in powerlifting and armwrestling earlier, I could not avail it due to financial constraints," lamented Jena. He, however, expressed confidence to win the title in the Asian championship. He thanked Prabir Pal and his son Pritam Pal for partly sponsoring his participation. Four officials from Orissa also left today to represent Indian Bodybuilding Federation in the Asian meet. They included IBF secretary Girija Shankar Nayak, Suresh Panda, Kishore Kumar Mishra and Venugopal Rao.
