A 60-member squad, featuring 35 girls and 25 boys, bagged a total of 50 medals in the 31st East Zone Junior Athletics Championship, which was held at Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand on 14 and 15 September, 2019. The 50 medals featured 13 gold, 26 silver and 11 bronze.
Sprinter Deepali Mohapatra was most successful Odisha competitor, capturing three medals in under-20 girls group. She clinched a sprint double by baggin both the 100m and 200m gold. Deepali also secured one silver medal in girls-20, 4x100m relay
Sahil Kiro was another outstanding performer, winning one gold each in boys-20 400m hurdles and 4x100m relay. The squad was accompanied by manager Bibhuti Bhusan Panda, lady manager Susmita Dutta, coaches Chita Ranjan Mohapatra and Sasmita Sethi.
