Hockey MWC: Germany stun Netherlads; Pak held

Germany stunned Netherlands 4-1 and Malaysia held Pakistan to 1-1 draw in respective second Pool-D match of the 14th Hockey Men’s World Cup at Kalinga Hockey Stadium today. The win against Netherlands (World Rank 4) was the second straight for Germany (World Rank 6) and the Die Honamas brightened their hopes for an automatic entry to the quarterfinals with full six points and one match in hand.

Valentin Verga gave Netherlands the lead, driving in from the left before seeing his cross-shot take a wicked deflection off a Germany stick. But was one-way traffic thereafter with Germany asserting supremay, slamming four goals in a row, including three in the last quarter.

After Mathias Muller leveled the score converting a penalty corner in the 30th minute, Lukas Windfeder, Marco Miltkau and Christopher Ruhr struck one each in space of six minutes to power Germany to the thumping win. Germany forward Florian Fuchs was adjudged the Player for the match.
