Hockey Odisha experienced mixed luck in the ongoing 3rd Hockey India 5-a-side Senior National Championships with the men’s team making it to the semifinals, but the women’s side bowing out in the quarterfinals at Field Marshal KM Kariappa Hockey Stadium in Bengaluru today.
Placed Pool B, Hockey Odisha men won one, lost one and drew one to reach quarterfinals, where they beat Uttar Pradesh Hockey 2-0 in a shootout after a 4-4 draw in regulation time. Hockey Odisha will take on Hockey Karnataka in the first semifinal On September 23.
Hockey Odisha women reached the last-eight stage, winning two matches and losing one Pool-A league. But in the quarterfinals, they went down to Hockey Jharkhand 1-3 in penalty shootout after the scores were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
Altogether eight states, including Hockey Odisha, are participating in this championship, which also features in and mixed event. Nilam Sanjeep Xess and Rashmita Minz are leading the Odisha men and women teams respectively.
