Sunita, Jayanati take sportslogon awards

India woman hockey star Sunita Lakra, international para-athlete Jayanti Behera, kabaddi coach Krushnakanta Panda and former judoka Manjulata Das were today conferred with the 7th Sportslogon Awards as the Player of the Year, Emerging Player, Best Coach and Player of Bygone Era Awards respectively. In the absence of Sunita, who is on National duty, her brother received the award.

Each of the four awards, instituted by Good Samaritan Trust, carried a trophy and Rs 25,000 each. State Sports Department Commissioner-cum-Secretary Vishal Dev handed over the awards in a function held here at Jayadev Bhawan.

Professor Subrat Das, Bhubaneswar Athletic Association vice-president Nabaranjan Pattnaik, Kumudini Mishra, Durga Prasad Mishra, Trustee Nanda Kishor Pattnaik and Tanamay Das were present on the occasion.

Upcoming football brothers Ranjan Soren and Sunil Soren of Salia Sahi slum area in Bhubaneswar, were bestowed with the Kumudini Krida Pravita Puraskar on the occasion. Ranjan and Sunil, who represented Bhaichung Bhutia Football Academy, jointly receive a trophy along with a cash award of Rs 10,000.

Krushnakanta is said to have played kabaddi at the national level and produced national level kabaddi players from his village Khanditar and sorounding areas of Jajpur districts. He has been imparting coaching in kabaddi since 1990. Manjulata Das of Puri is claimed to have won medal in national-level judo competition.
