Host Odisha emerged overall champions, bagging a total of 217 medals in the 9th All-India Open Karate Tournament, held at J N Indoor Stadium in Cuttack from March 30 to April 1, 2018. The medals included 55 gold, 57 silver and 105 bronze.
The tournament was jointly organised by Utkal Karate School and Karate D Union India. According to official press release, around 1500 karatekas vied for medals in 100 events. Karate Association of India General Secretary Bharat Sharma handed over the medals in the presence of Utkal Karate School secretary Hariprasad Pattanayak was present on the occasion.
A souvenir of Utkal Karate School was release on the occasion. The 30th State Sub-junior Karate Championship coincided the with the All-India event. Around 350 competitors from 26 districts participated in the state meet.
