BHUBANESWAR 09-Dec-2017
Host Jharkhand beat Odisha by 112 runs on the last day of their three-day Vijay Merchant Trophy U-16 East Zone league match at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur today. Chasing a victory target of 238, Odisha were dismissed for 126. The win fetched Jharkhand six points, while Odisha got none.
Odisha started the match on a promising note as a five-wicket haul by Bikash Naik helped them restrict host Jharkhand to 177 in the first innings. Naik was well supported by Sushil Barik, who picked up two wickets for 39 runs.
But the impressive performance of the bowlers could not be backed by the batsmen as Odisha folded up for a paltry 101. Only four batsmen from Odisha were ableto reach double figures and Sushil Barik was the top scorer among them with 30 runs. Manishi was most successful Jharkhand Bowler with six wickets for 15 runs.
After taking a 76-run first-innings lead, Jharkhand declared their second at 162 for four, leaving Odihsa with a tantalizing target of 239 runs to win the match. But the visitors failed to cash in on the opportunity even though they performed slightly better than first innings total of 101.
Sushil Barik once again emerged as the top scorer for Odisha with a 106-ball 44. For Jharkhand, Manishi again became the most successful bowler, taking six wickets in the second innings and match haul of 12 for 37. Odisha will next meet Bengal here from December 13 to 15.
