Men’s HWL: Belgium spank Spain; Argentina held

Olympic silver medallist Belgium registered their second straight win in the Men’s Hockey World League Finals, hammering Spain 5-0 in a lopsided Pool-A match here at Kalinga Hockey Stadium today. Drag-flick specialist Loick Luypaert converted two penalty corners and a penalty stroke to achieve the first hat-trick of the tournament, while the other two goals for Belgium were scored by Florent van Aubel and Cedric Charlier.

The Red Lions, who had upset Argentina 3-2 in their opening match, now lead the pool table with six points. Despite the crushing defeat, Spain remained at the second position with three points, which they had secured after defeating Netherlands on the opening day.

Europeran champions Netherlands, however, squandered 2-0 lead to settled with a 3-3 draw against Olympic champions Argentina in another Pool-B match of the day. came from behind to hold European champions  with four points.
