Host India held defending champions Australia to 1-1 draw, while Germany resistered a 2-0 convincing win over England on the opening day of the Men’s Hockey World League Finals here at Kalinga Hockey Stadium today.
In between the two matches, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled the glittering trophy of the tournament amidst dance, music, laser show and fireworks. International Hockey Federation president Narinder Dhruv Batra and Odisha Sports Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera were present on the occasion.
RESULTS:
Dec 1 (Match No 1): Germany (Mats Grambusch 19-FG, Christopher Ruhr 25-FG) beat England 2-0. Man of the match: Mats Grambusch (GER). Junior Player of the Match: Julius Meyer (GER).
