Senior National Powerlifting: Odisha bag 11 medals

Odisha has bagged a total of 11 medals in the unequipped category of Senior National Powerlifting Championship, which is being held at Alleppey in Kerala from August 14 to 19, 2017. According to Odisha Powerlifting Association secretary Chitta Ranjan Swain, the 11 medals include four gold, four silver and three bronze.

Laxmimani Singh, Debi Singh, Chandrabadani Mahanta and Sangita Singh grabbed the four gold medals, while the silver medals were captured by Anupama Swain, Priyadarshini Bisoi, Sangram Behera and Mohammad Javed Arshad. Rupali Palei, Mohammad Abid and Samarendra Mahanta secured the three bronze medals in the championship.

Among the medalists, Debi Singh was adjudged the Strong Woman of India first runner-up and Chandrabadani Mohanta Strongwoman of India second runner-up. Apart from individual medals, Odisha emerged team champions and second runners-up in women and men categories respectively.

1. Laxmimani Singh, Women 47kg (squat 97.5kg, benchpress 62.5kg, deadlift 130kg, total 290kg); 2. Debi Singh, Women 52kg (117.5+75+150= 342.5kg); 3. Chandrabadani Mahanta, Women 63kg (140+82.5+152= 374.5kg); 4. Sangita Singh, Women +84kg (165+72.5+145= 382.5kg).

SILVER:
1. Anupama Swain, Women 52kg (125+62.5+130= 317.5kg); 2. Priyadarshini Bisoi, Women 72kg (160+77.5+160= 397.5kg); 3. Sangram Behera, Men 83kg (240+145+257= 642kg); 4. Mohammad Javed Arshad, Men 120kg (215+180+245= 640kg).

BRONZE: 1. Rupali Palei, Women 47kg (95+52.5+127.5= 275kg); 2. Mohammad Abid, Men 66kg (167.5+125+222.5= 515kg); 3. Samarendra Mahanta, Men 59kg (170+100+200= 470kg).
