Odisha duo Satirtha Patnaik and Santosh Kumar Mallik made a clean sweep of both the singles and doubles titles in 35-plus age group of the AITA-CSTA All-India Veteran Tennis Tournament, which was organised by Chhattisgarh State Tennis Association (CSTA), under the aegis of All India Tennis Association (AITA) at VIP’s Club in Raipur from March 20 to 24, 2017.
Satirtha, a dentist by profession, bagged a creditable double by emerging champion in both the singles and doubles events. In the singles final, Satirtha was leading 4-0 in the first set against doubles partner and statemate Santosh when the latter conceded the match due to injury.
Earlier in the doubles summit clash, Satirtha and Santosh, who is a leading tennis coach, proved themselves to be a formidable combination as they cantered to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Rajasthan-Uttarakhand pair of Manish Kulhary and Abinash Kunwar. With their triumphs, Bhubaneswar duo Sathirtha and Santosh garnered 15 and 12 AITA ranking points respectively.
