Rutuparna clinches C S double, misses treble

Rutuparna Choudhury, the current No 1 woman tennis player of Odisha, clinched a double by winning both the under-16 and under-18 girls’ singles titles in AITA Championship Series Tournament, which was organized by All Assam Tennis Association at Guwahati from June 20 to 24, 2016.

In both the finals, Bhubaneswar lass Rutuparna defeated Lenien Jamir of Assam. She won the under-16 final 6-2, 6-0 and the under-18 title clash 7-5, 6-2. However, Rutuparna missed a treble as she went down in the under-18 girls’ doubles summit clash.

Partnering with statemate Ameek Kiran Batth, Rutuparna finished runners-up after losing to Assam-West Bengal combination of Lenien Jamir and Ishita Gupta in the final 2-6, 0-6.

With this double crown, Rutuparna increased the number of her AITA career titles to 29, which include 19 singles and 10 doubles. If her six state level titles are taken into account, she has captured an overall total 35 titles so far.
