Pranab pockets state youth chess title

Jajpur boy Pranab Kumar Patra won the title in the Odisha State Youth (U-25) Chess Championship, which was organised by Ganjam District Chess Association, under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association at Gurukul International Public School in Berhampur from June 3 to 5.

Four players tied for the top spot with five points each out of a possible six. But on the basis of Buchholz tie-break method, Pranab was declared champion, while Puri lad Baivab Mishra settled as runner-up.  Top seed Sidhant Mohapatra (Bhadrak) and third seed Rajesh Nayak (Puri) finished third and fourth respectively.

Altogether 48 players participated in the three-day championship. Pranab and Baivab qualified to represent Odisha in the National U-25 Chess Championship, scheduled to be held from September 4 to 10.
