Rising Students retain N M Bhuyan Memorial Trophy

Rising Students Club retained the trophy in the 3rd N M Bhuyan Memorial Cricket Tournament, trouncing host Mukteswar Club by 158 runs in the lop-sided final here at BJB College Ground today. Rising Students’ captain Biplab Samantray starred in the triumph, hitting 71-ball 92 with the help of three boundaries and seven sixes.

Adjudged as both man of the final match and man of the tournament, Samantaray pocketed a total cash prize of Rs 15,000. The champion team received Rs 30,000 and the runner-up side Rs 20,000. Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Asirbad Behera handed over the trophy at the closing function. OCA joint-secretaries Satyabrata Behera, Sanjib Dutta; treasurer Satya Mohanty, eminent cricket coach Kishore Mania and host Mukteswar Club secretary Prasant Mohapatra were present on the occasion.

Best batsman Sujit Lenka (Rising Students) and best bowler Sumitosh Praharaj (Mukteswar) received Rs 5,000 each, which best fielder Mahavir Prasad took home Rs 2,000. Basant Mohanty, Subhranshu Senapati and Priyanka Priyadarshini Sahu were felicitated on the occasion as best senior, junior and woman cricketer of the year respectively. The three players received cash award of Rs 10,000 each.
