Calcutta Police Sergeants’ Institute emerged champions in the Callaghan Cup All-India Division-II Rugby Football Tournament, which was hosted by Odisha Rugby Football Association (ORFA) for the first time at Barabati Stadium here from December 9 to 13. Sergeants’ Institute beat Mumbai Magician in the final by 20-9 points.
Altogether 12 teams, consisting of around 300 players participated in the five-day tournament. Of the two Odisha teams in the fray, Bhubaneswar-based Kalinga Institute of Social Science (KISS) finished seventh, defeating Jammu & Kashmir 19-18.
ORFA president and Bhubaneswar (North) MLA Priyadarshi Mishra handed over the trophy in the closing function. Former State Assistant Sports Director Ashok Mohanty, ORFA vice-president Rajeev Sahu, secretary Upendra Kumar Mohanty, coordinater Swakhyar Mohanty and Rugby India assistant coach Manas Kumar Jena were present on the occasion.
