Sprinter Sekunta Kullu of Dev Ray College (Bhubaneswar) and thrower Jambeswar Panda of Maharish College (Bhubaneswar) emerged best athletes among women and man respectively in the 66th Inter-College Athletics Championship of Utkal University, which concluded at Kalinga Stadium here today.
Sekunta, a national medallist, won three events and finished second in one. Jambeswar stood first in two events and ended second in one. Salipur College won the team title in men’s category, while Dev Ray College settled as runners-up. In women’s group, Dev Ray College won the team title, while host Government College of Physical Education (GCPE) finished runners-up.
A record 1090 competitors from 138 colleges joined the two-day championship. Utkal University Vice-chancellor Dr Ashok Kumar Dash gave away the trophies at the closing function. Utkal University Sports Council Director Prof Jayanta Kumar Parida and GCPE Principal Dr Man Mohan Rout were present on the occasion. High jumper Latika Basra and discus thrower Jambeswar Panda won the first two event of the meet.
RESULTS:
GIRLS: High jump: 1. Latika Basra (DR College), 2. Jasmi Kisku (DR College), 3. Sangita Kumari Ray (GCPE).
BOYS: Discus: 1. Jambeswar Panda (Maharshi College), 2. Chinmay Jena (Chitolo Collge), 3. Satya Ranjan Sahu (GCPE).
