Odisha pulled off a thrilling one-wicket win over Delhi in their Elite Group Super League match of the Inter-State Women`s One Day Cricket Competition at Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground in Rajkot today. With this win, their second in three matches, Odisha finished runners-up. Sarita Meher and Pragyan Paramita Mohanty played instrumental roles in the precious win, hitting a half-century each and stitching together 124 runs in their fourth-wicket stand.
Chasing a target of 170, Odisha were in dire straits, losing three wickets with only 14 runs on the board. But the formidable partnership between Sarita and Pragyan helped them overhaul the target with three balls to spare. Sarita`s 125-ball knock of 64 included three boundaries, while Pragyan hit six four in her 109-ball knock of 62.
Earlier electing to bat, Delhi compiled 169 for eight in the stipulated 50 overs. Mandeep Kaur top scored for Delhi with 48 runs, while Sushree Dibyadarshini Pradhan proved to be Odisha`s most successful bowler, picking up two wickets for 34 runs.
This was Odisha women team`s biggest achievement of the season, which fetched them prompt reward as Odisha Cricket Association announced a cash award of Rs 5 lakh for the members of the Madhusmita Behera-led state team.
