West Bengals` Sanil Jagtiani bagged a double by emerging champion in both the boys` singles and doubles categories of the AITA-OTPPA Under-18 Championship Series Tennis Tournament here at Kalinga Stadium today.
He first secured the doubles title with his Kolkata-based Ordance Club partner Ishaque Eqbal, defeating Odisha duo of Avilash Mishra and Adarsh Sahoo in final by straight sets. Second seed Jagtiani clinched the double crown, edging out his clubmate and top seed Eqbal in the energy-sapping singles final by 2-1 sets.
The three-hour-long final was interrupted several times due to injury issues and insufficient light. Playing under extreme humid conditions, both the finalists were completely exhausted when the match ended under lights. Eqbal suffered a massive cramp in the deciding set and had to be provided on-court medical assistance.
