Hockey Odisha once again finished runners-up in the Hockey India Junior Men National Championship (Division A) as they lost to defending champions Punjab 2-6 in the final of the fourth edition at Chennai today. Last year too both teams met in the final where Hockey Odisha lost to Punjab 2-1.
Earlier Hockey Odisha won all three of their league matches in Pool-B to qualify for the semifinals. They beat Karnataka 5-0, Himachal Pradesh 2-1 and Mumbai Hockey Association 4-0. In the semifinals, Hockey Odisha humbled Sports Authority of India 6-0.
RESULTS:
March 30: Hockey Odisha (Sunil Ekka 10th, Dipsan Tirkey 17th, Teiphil Kujur 34th, Felix Baa 51st, 58th) beat Karnataka 5-0.
April 1: Hockey Odisha (Sunil Ekka 7th, Sanjit Toppo 58th) beat Himachal Pradesh (Amandeep Singh 35th) 2-1.
April 3: Hockey Odisha (Sanjit Toppo 1st, Anand Lakra 31st, Joseph Toppo 61st, Anuranjan Tirkey 68th) beat Mumbai 4-0.
April 5 (Semifinal): Hockey Odisha (Joseph Toppo 9th, Felix Baa 11th, Nilam Sanjeep Xess 24th, Teophil Kujur 52nd, Prasan Tirkey 54th, 56th) beat Sports Authority of India 6-0.
April 6 (Final): Punjab (Harjeet Singh 1st; Simranjeet Singh 9th, 67th; Baljinder Singh 14th; Parvinder Singh 57th; Ajit Pandit 59th) beat Hockey Odisha (Sunil Ekka 30th, Joseph Toppo 44th) 6-2.
