East Central Railway of Bihar emerged champions in the All-India Chandan Cup Women’s Football Tournament at Biju Pattnaik playground here, spanking Cuttack 3-0 in the final today. Railway striker Kamla Devi, who scored a brace in the final, received two individual awards as best forward and player of the tournament.
Bishnu Priya Mahanta and Pravasini Panda of the runners-up team were adjudged as the best goalkeeper and best defender respectively. The champion team received a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and the runners-up team Rs 10,000.
BJP leader and former minister Biswa Bhusan Harichandan handed over the trophy in the presence of Odisha Cricket Association secretary Asirbad Behera, former India woman football captain Shradhanjali Samantary, host Odisha Veer Mahasangh president Prakash Harichandan and secretary Dilip Srichandan.
RESULTS:
February 16 (QF 1): East Central Railway, Bihar (Mantiswari Chanu 58th) beat Bhubaneswar 1-0.
February 17 (QF 2): Sambalpur (Arati Khanu 20th) beat Sundargarh 1-0.
February 18 (SF 1): East Central Railway (Pinky Bompal Magar 34th, Y Laxmi Devi 41st) beat Sambalpur 2-0 minute.
February 19 (QF 3): East Coast Railway, Bhubaneswar beat Kendrapara 4-3 in tie-breaker.
February 20 (QF 4): Cuttack beat Jharkhand 4-3 via tie-breaker (FT: 0-0).
February 21 (SF 2): Cuttack beat East Coast Railway 3-1 in tie-breaker (FT: 0-0).
February 23 (Final): East Central Railway (Sasmita Mallick 21st, Kamla Devi 40th, 70th) beat Cuttack 3-0.
