Odisha `A` emerged champions in the All-India Nalco Cup Women`s Football Tournament, edging out Tamil Nadu 1-0 at Biju Patnaik Sports Complex in Angul today. Lochana Munda scored the all-important goal in the seventh minute.
The champion team received a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and the runners-up became richer by Rs 20,000. Former India woman football captain Sradhanjali Samantaray handed over the trophy and cash prizes at the closing function. Nalco Executive Director in-charge Santosh Kumar Satpathy graced the occasion as chief guest.
Altogether eight teams participated in the tournament, which commenced earlier on October 3. Sita Sharma of Odisha `A` and R Sumitra of Tamil Nadu were adjudged as the best goalkeeper and best player of the tournament respectively.
Earlier in the semifinals, Odisha A beat Odisha B 6-5 in penalty shoot out, while Tamil Nadu got the better of West Bengal 7-6 also in tie-breaker.
